In Ode to the Process

Lucas is a multi disciplinary artist who explores his own realtionship to himself and the world through reoccuring narratives. With an accute eye for colour and light, Lucas observes the patterns and cycles in life around him; discovering his own language in the process, the previously undescribable finds a form in the world.

Painting is the primary vessel to channel these patterns. Skilled draughtsmanship sets the strong foundation for his practice, Lucas then experiments and pushes the boundaries of his work through exploration of texture, colour and light. As storytelling is central to the work, each piece is rife with expression and delicate feeling.  Not being tied to a single medium, Lucas can follow his gut and choose what gives him the space to truly embody an idea: From pen and ink, engraving on metal, watercolour, acrylic or oil paint, the mateiral and the canvas become his stage. Furthermore, as an animator, motion and movement can always be found as a distinctive character of his work.
Each piece clearly tells of its creation; the rawness of the underworking, the changes and corrections, the refinment, they all become evidence of a journey. In an almost spiritual practice, perfection is a false prophet of a person devoted to finding himself and the beauty in the world.

As all things exist in realtionship to another, this inherently self-explorative practice is kept in motion and inspiration is drawn again when it is finalised and published. Truly echoing the cyclical nature of the world, the end becomes a new beginning.

Ultimately seeking to discover himself, Lucas searches for his own reflections in the world. Nurturing the innate knowledge we are born with, exploring archetypes of the human jourey, refining the ability to be recievers, opening channels of discourse and exposure to unfamiliar perspectives. This all contributes to a growing faith in life and in the belief that eveything has a reason.

Lucas now finds himself set on a path to show the world, and himself, that all we will ever need is already within the body.

After an Artistic Residency opportunity with artist Rubens Matuck mid 2023, Lucas is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Leaving his home in London for a new chapter; the pursuit of art opened this unique opportunity to expand his career and explore his Brazilian heratige; well and truly offering a new reality today.
